Genesis 2 Church capter #291 was promoting the sale of MMS as a sacramental cleansing water kit, and was sold by what was claimed as a donaton to the church for $50 per bottle. It had the instructions for use, users were told to ignore the mixed liquid turning yellow, fizzing and letting off “chlorimne like odor.”

On July 7, 2023, he pled guilty to charges under the Food and Drugs Act, the sale of unarthorized drugs. Justice Ann Browne accepted a joint submission by Cheif prosecutor Omelia Tedesco-White and defense lawyer Mary Odiase to fine $12,000 and put him on probation for two years.

He is prohibited from possessing sodium chlorite and the advisement, sale and manufacturing of any unauthorized health product, including drugs and natural health products.

The investigation was led by Health Canada Inspector Ingrid Popesku in March 2018

Health Canada has never approved any health products containing soduyn chlorite for consumption by humans, There are some veterinary products that contain sodiun chlorite but those are disinfectants. They kill the parvovirus.

Popesku’s investigation led her to different websites that were maintained by Acuna Saavedra that ofered MMS kits for sale, She was eventually able to buy MMS kits that included the MMS Health Recovery Guide Book First Edition by former scientologist Jim Humble.

They included seperate bottles containing watered down sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid which acts as an activator. Tedesco-White said that Health Canada issued severla public warnings about the risks of MMS.

She said,”Sodium chlorite is a chemical used mainly as a textile bleaching agent and disinfectant. Ingesting sodium chlorite can cause poisioning, kidney failure, and harm to red blood cells that reduces the ability of the blood to carry oxygen, among other effects.”

In 2022, Health Canada completed a Health Risk Assesment that concluded that there is a reasonable probablility that the exposure to Canadians to MMS will cause serious harm or death.

Tedesco-White said that a steep fine and probation were appropriate to deter Acuna Saavedra and others from promoting and selling MMS.

Acuna Saavedra will have 2 years to pay the fine. If he doesn’t he will ahve to serve prision time.

Health Canada said,” The Department warns that anyone in the advertising or sale of MMS or similar products will be stopped. We urge the public not to take MMS for the treatment of ailments and to report the sale of these unarthorized products to Health Canada.

Health Canada reminds consumers to look for health products with a drug identification number (DIN), a natural product number (NPN) or a homeopathic medicines number (DIN-HM) on the label. These numbers mean that the products have been reviewed by Health Canada for safety, efficay, quality, and authroized for sale in Canada. People can also check whether the product is authroized or not by searching the Drug Database, the Medical Devices Active License Listing and the Licensed Natural Health Product Database.
